PLEASE HELP US PROTECT THE DON RIVER, OUR EVENT AN PLEASE HELP US PROTECT THE DON RIVER, OUR EVENT AND THE COMMUNITY

We’ve had reports of parts of our track preparation being deliberately set on fire.
Yesterday, it was a sign warning of a road crossing ahead - signs that are in place to help protect both road users, and competitors during prerunning. Today, one of our hay bales was set alight.
This sort of destruction comes at a cost - not only financially, with items needing to be replaced, but also in the volunteer hours required to repair and replace them.
Most importantly, deliberately lighting fires in the river is putting our riverside community at risk. With dry conditions, the potential for a fire to spread along the riverbanks is a concern.
Please help us by being vigilant and reporting any destruction or suspicious activity.
And to the person responsible: please stop. This isn't harmless fun or a prank. You're putting our volunteers, our event preparations, and potentially our community at risk.
There's plenty of options to keep you hydrated, ca There's plenty of options to keep you hydrated, caffeinated and well fed while you’re in Bowen!
You’ll find some fantastic food and drink vendors at the Showgrounds and our Telegraph Road Spectator Zone, so whether you’re chasing a coffee, a cold drink, a hearty feed or something sweet, we’ve got you covered.

And keep an eye out for Mr Whipsunday - our roving ice cream vendor will also be making side trips to the Gladstone Park Spectator Zone — because a day at the Don is always better with an ice cream in hand!

When it’s time to head into town, Bowen has lots of excellent dining options to choose from. Enjoy sea views, a lively atmosphere and modern, diverse cuisine at the Grand View Hotel or pull up a chair at the Larrikin Hotel where the beer is cold, the kitchen is open Wednesday to Saturday, and the friendly locals are always ready to welcome you. Both venues offer courtesy buses, so they can pick you up, drop you home and let you enjoy your night without worrying about getting behind the wheel.
